SR Software Engineer Job Description: Plans, conducts, and coordinates software development activities. Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs software that contains logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems or questions in computer language for solutions by means of data processing equipment. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle. Applies knowledge of computer hardware and software, subject matter to be programmed in business/mission applications, information processing techniques used, and information gathered from system users to develop software. Corrects program errors, prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. Ensures software standards are met.

 

DCPDS Job Description: Candidate will be a member of the Software Configuration/Release Management team supporting the Defense Civilian Personnel Data System (DCPDS).  This team is responsible for delivering services and managing application changes to Human Resource data associated with more than 800,000 Government civilian employees.  The successful candidate with have a background in systems integration and will be a self-starter, have an inquisitive attitude, and be able successfully solve problems both independently and as a member of an integrated team that performs in a fast pace environment.  Must have the ability to interact and work collaboratively with a diverse set of stakeholders (customer representatives; project leads; hardware/software engineers; system and database administrators; testers, management, etc.).  Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Establish and improve Configuration Management (CM) infrastructure by reviewing and defining configuration items (CIs); develop configuration baselines used to perform functional and physical configuration audits used to communicate status accounting reports (i.e., management metrics; baseline reports)
  • Assist with Configuration / Release Management Control Boards to approve changes to baseline, assess risk to change and ensure key stakeholders are aware of release content (i.e. code; scripts; special instructions; and core functionality that will change for end user)
  • Implement, improve and troubleshoot the baseline environments to include managing product licenses, writing scripts, and continuous building of product release working with product release builds (either inside or outside of the CM RM technology)
  • Support process improvement areas/recommend changes to processes/procedures for efficiencies/cost-savings/etc.
  • Provide technical knowledge to support the implementation of system components/subsystems utilizing the Oracle E-Business Suite and/or HR modules and/or Data Warehouse
  • Consider configuration management, security and quality control in implementations
  • Support functional/regression testing activities in support of system functionality releases, patches and upgrades
  • Document, track, and update System Change Requests and Problem Reports

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of configuration management tools; the candidate should understand CM/Release Management best practices
  • Knowledge and experience with COTS integration / COTS lifecycle / COTS maintenance
  • Software Configuration Management and ticket-tracking tools (e.g. PVCS, Quality Center)
  • Ability to write software build scripts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (specifically excel for creating metrics)
  • Strong teamwork and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient organizational and analytical skills

 

DoD Security Requirements:

  • This position is only open to US Citizens.
  • Must have completed a DoD T3 investigation (formerly NAC LC) within the last 24 months

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of configuration management tools/proficiency in understanding CM/Release Management best practices
  • Knowledge and experience with COTS integration / COTS lifecycle / COTS maintenance
  • Software Configuration Management and ticket-tracking tools (e.g. PVCS, Quality Center)
  • Ability to write software build scripts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (specifically excel for creating metrics)
  • Organizational and analytical skills
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Domain knowledge related to HR, Payroll, HCM, etc.
  • Experience with Software Configuration Management tools (e.g. PVCS)

 

Education/Experience Minimum:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree. Considered career, or journey, level.

 

Authority/Accountability: The successful candidate will be a part of a small working group and will report directly to the project Task Leader.
